Greensboro City Council Names New City Manager: Nathaniel “Trey” Davis

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Greensboro City Council has officially appointed Nathaniel “Trey” Davis as the new city manager, effective immediately. This decision was made during a council meeting held on October 4, marking a significant leadership change in the city’s administration.

Background of the New City Manager

Davis has been a vital part of Greensboro’s leadership since 2019, serving as the assistant city manager. His contributions have been particularly notable in areas such as public safety, infrastructure, and economic development. Mayor Nancy Vaughan highlighted Davis’s extensive experience and commitment to the community, stating, “After an extensive, national search, the City Council selected Mr. Davis due to his years of service to the community and extensive experience in public safety, a primary focus of Council.”

Davis began his career in public service as a police officer in 1996 and joined the Greensboro Police Department in 2002. Over the years, he has held various roles within the department, including Commander of Community Engagement and Professional Standards.

Vision for Greensboro’s Future

In his new role as city manager, Davis expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him by the City Council. “I am honoured by the level of confidence the City Council has shown in my leadership ability,” he remarked. He emphasised his commitment to enhancing Greensboro’s quality of life while addressing growth challenges. His focus will be on supporting infrastructure, economic development, and public safety.

Davis holds both a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Arts degree from Liberty University, further underscoring his dedication to education and public service.

Transitioning Leadership

Davis succeeds Taiwo Jaiyeoba, who stepped down earlier this year amidst several controversies. Chris Wilson, who served as interim city manager during this transition period, will return to his role as deputy city manager.

With Nathaniel “Trey” Davis at the helm as the new city manager, Greensboro is poised for continued progress and innovation under his leadership.
