CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The North Carolina 2026 Senate race sees massive donations, with both major campaigns already reporting record-breaking fundraising totals more than a year before voters head to the polls.
According to campaign officials, former Governor Roy Cooper’s Senate campaign has raised $14.5 million in the last three months, including $10.9 million in direct donations and $3.7 million from a fundraising committee. Cooper’s team says that 90 percent of contributions were $100 or less, highlighting strong grassroots support.
“This is a huge number,” said Western Carolina University Professor Chris Cooper. “What it means for democracy, what it means for how we’re spending money — folks can argue. But no one can question that this is an impressive figure.”
Meanwhile, former RNC Chair Michael Whatley’s campaign reported raising about $6 million in the last quarter, with an average donation of $15, according to statements made to the Washington Examiner.
Political analysts say the early surge in contributions means the North Carolina 2026 Senate race sees massive donations unlike any previous election in the state’s history — and could become one of the most expensive races in the nation.
“I’ve seen estimates that we could be looking at a race that is north of $600 million total, perhaps even up to $1 billion combined spent on this race,” Professor Cooper added. “And at least for the first few weeks of it, it seems like we may hit those kinds of numbers.”
Experts also predict that both campaigns will focus heavily on voter turnout, targeting core supporters instead of centrist voters as the race intensifies.
As fundraising continues to surge, one thing is clear — the North Carolina 2026 Senate race sees massive donations and is shaping up to be a historic political showdown in the Tar Heel State.
