GREENSBORO, N.C. — A viral video showing North Carolina cops caught on camera beating a suspect in Greensboro has sparked outrage and calls for accountability.
The video, circulating widely online, shows at least three Greensboro police officers restraining a Black man, later identified as 37-year-old Nathaniel Williams, during an arrest. One officer appears to strike Williams multiple times while another has a knee positioned near his neck
According to the Greensboro Police Department, the incident happened Sunday night during a “proactive patrol.” Officers say they found Williams sitting in his car with marijuana visible on his lap. When ordered to step out, police claim he refused multiple commands, leading to a struggle.

Police allege Williams freed one hand from his cuffs and assaulted an officer before being taken to the ground. Officials say the officer seen striking Williams was using “suprascapular strikes” — blows to the upper back and shoulder area — to make him release his arm.
Williams was arrested and faces two felony counts of assault on a law enforcement officer, one felony count of destruction of evidence, and five misdemeanor charges, including possession of marijuana.
The department confirmed that all involved officers remain on active duty as an internal investigation into the use of force is underway.
