North Forsyth Student Charged After Bringing Gun to Campus

FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. — A student at North Forsyth High School is facing felony charges after deputies say the teen brought a firearm onto school grounds.

According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened on Thursday, just one week into the new school year. Deputies say the student was found in possession of a loaded handgun with the serial number removed.

The juvenile was taken into custody under a secure order and transferred to a juvenile detention center.

Charges Filed

The teen is facing two felony counts:

  • Possession of a firearm on school property
  • Possession of a firearm with the serial number removed (or altered/destroyed)

Authorities emphasized the seriousness of the charges, noting that bringing a weapon onto campus puts both students and staff at risk.

Sheriff’s Statement

Forsyth County Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough said he was thankful for the quick response by law enforcement and school officials.

“On just the seventh day of school, a juvenile was found with a loaded gun that had its serial number obliterated. Thanks to the quick actions of deputies, staff, and students, this situation ended safely,” Kimbrough said.

He added that the choices made by young people today shape the safety of schools and communities moving forward.

Anyone with additional details about the case is asked to contact the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office at (336) 727-2112.
