Honoring Officer Michael Horan at Westover Church

The funeral service, held at 1 p.m., was open to the public on a first-come, first-serve basis. For those unable to attend, a live stream on the Westover Church website allowed the broader community to honour Horan’s memory.

A caisson provided by the North Carolina Caisson Unit carried Horan’s casket, a touching tribute traditionally reserved for military honours. The service concluded with a moving 21-gun salute, underscoring the deep respect and gratitude for Horan’s service and sacrifice.

The Incident That Took Officer Horan’s Life: Officer Michael Horan Laid to Rest

Officer Michael Horan was killed on Dec. 23, 2024, while responding to an emergency call at a Food Lion on Lawndale Drive. Reports of an armed individual inside led Horan to the scene, where he was fatally shot before he could draw his weapon. The suspect, identified as Tarell Isaac McMillian, fled the scene but was later apprehended after a multi-county chase. McMillian now faces first-degree murder charges.

Community Support for Officer Michael Horan’s Family

The loss of Officer Michael Horan has galvanized the Greensboro community and surrounding agencies. Police departments across the Triad joined forces to support the funeral service, with High Point officers blocking roads for the procession and the Burlington Police Department offering additional assistance.

To honour Horan’s legacy, a Greensboro officer designed a commemorative shirt, with all proceeds going to his family. A memorial ride is also planned for February, continuing the show of solidarity for those Horan left behind.

Officer Michael Horan’s dedication to serving and protecting Greensboro will never be forgotten.
