GREENSBORO, N.C. — A police officer has died following a security incident near Tarawa Terrace Elementary School on Camp Lejeune, authorities confirmed Tuesday.

According to Jacksonville Police, the single fatality reported during the incident was one of their officers. Officials have not released the officer’s name, citing an active investigation being led by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS). Authorities also confirmed the incident occurred while the officer was off duty.
