WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A sad incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday as one man was killed and another left fighting for his life after a shooting on East 15th St. in Winston-Salem. The Winston-Salem Police Department is actively investigating the case.

Authorities responded to reports of gunfire at an apartment located in the 1000 block of East 15th Street at approximately 12:30 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered Rashard Jaron Brooks, 37, of Winston-Salem, fatally injured inside the apartment. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Outside the apartment, a second victim was found suffering from gunshot wounds. The injured man was promptly transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Key Details Revealed During Investigation
Preliminary findings indicate that Brooks and the second victim were involved in a physical altercation inside the apartment. During the dispute, a third individual, identified as the suspect, opened fire on both men. Police confirmed that the suspect and the victims were acquainted.
The Winston-Salem Police Department has not disclosed the suspect’s identity, and the investigation remains ongoing.
