Forecast Alert: Southern Carolina Rain Aids Firefighters but Creates risk of Flooding

Southern California is experiencing much-needed rain, aiding firefighters battling wildfires. However, the heavy downpours pose significant risks, particularly in areas affected by recent fires, where they could trigger flash flooding and toxic ash runoff in areas scorched by Los Angeles.

Southern Carolina Rain Aids Firefighters

The National Weather Service has issued flood watches for burn scar regions, warning that localized downpours may lead to mudslides and debris flows. Flood watches were in effect through 4 PM on Monday for burn areas from recent fires that broke in  Los Angeles, Altadena and Castaic Lake, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Oxnard.

A portion of the Pacific Coast Highway in Los Angeles County was Closed on a Sunday afternoon due to Mudflows in Topanga, Canyon the California Department of Transportation said.

Crews have been working to stabilize these areas, but the potential for hazardous conditions remains high as rainfall continues into early next week.
