Teen Shot After Dispute With Rideshare Driver

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A teen shot after dispute with rideshare driver in Winston-Salem is now in critical but stable condition, according to the Winston-Salem Police Department.

The shooting happened on Sunday around 1:44 p.m. on Doris Street. Officers arriving at the scene found a 17-year-old male with gunshot injuries, and he was immediately transported to the hospital for treatment.

Dispute Leads to Shooting

Investigators say the incident stemmed from a confrontation between the teen and a rideshare driver. The teen reportedly became upset after a canceled ride and approached the driver in a threatening manner while armed.

Police said this escalated into the shooting, with the driver firing in what has been deemed self-defense.

The District Attorney’s Decision

The Forsyth County District Attorney’s Office has reviewed the case and decided not to file charges against the rideshare driver, ruling the shooting as a justified act of self-defense.
