A sad explosion involving a Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside Trump Hotel in Las Vegas early Wednesday morning, leaving one person dead and raising a terrorism investigation. The incident, which occurred at the valet area of the Trump International Hotel, has drawn attention from federal agencies and raised questions about its motive.
Investigation into Tesla Cybertruck Explosion
Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, are treating the event as a potential act of terrorism but have not linked it to organized groups like ISIS. Sheriff Kevin McMahill of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed the explosion was an isolated incident, stating, “We have no evidence suggesting any ongoing threat to the community.”
The Cybertruck was rented by Matthew Alan Livelsberger, 37, a U.S. Army intelligence sergeant under investigation. Livelsberger’s identification and personal belongings were found inside the vehicle, but investigators are still awaiting DNA confirmation because the body was “badly burned.” There were indications the driver shot himself before the explosion.
Similarities to New Orleans Attack Questioned
The explosion happened several hours after another tragedy had struck New Orleans, in which a truck was used to attack revelers on Bourbon Street, killing many. While both involved rented trucks and U.S. military personnel, investigators have found no connection between the two. President Biden made mention of the investigations, but added, “There’s no evidence linking the two attacks so far.”
Tesla and Trump React
Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk, in a tweet about the incident, said that “the explosion appeared to be linked to fireworks or a bomb in the bed of the Cybertruck” and was not connected with the vehicle’s design. He added that Tesla was cooperating fully with investigators.
Meanwhile, Trump International Hotel was on high alert, while Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley called for calm as police presence was dispatched throughout the city.
Community Safety Reassured
While the tragedy has raised concerns, law enforcement has assured in all ways that there is no continuing threat. As FBI officials continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the Tesla Cybertruck exploding outside Trump Hotel, they seek answers to this shocking event.
