A Texas man gave his 4-month-old son gasoline in a savage attempt to kill him, leading to serious criminal charges. Edgar James Bridgemon, 24, was arrested on August 10, 2024, in Paris, Texas, and is now facing charges of attempted capital murder and evading arrest.
On Saturday afternoon, the Paris Police Department responded to an emergency call at a residence on Pine Bluff Street. Upon arrival, officers found emergency medical services already treating the infant, who had reportedly ingested gasoline. The child’s mother informed the police that Bridgemon had intentionally forced the baby to drink the toxic substance.
As the situation unfolded, Bridgemon attempted to flee the scene on foot but was apprehended just a block away from the residence. During questioning, he confessed to giving his son gasoline with the intent to kill him, according to Captain John Bull of the Paris Police Department.

The infant was quickly transported to Paris Regional Medical Center and later moved to a specialized facility in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for further treatment. Bridgemon is being held at the Lamar County Jail on a bond set at $255,000. If convicted, he could face up to life in prison, as attempted capital murder is classified as a first-degree felony in Texas, particularly when the victim is under the age of 10.
This shocking incident has drawn significant attention, highlighting the serious consequences of such heinous actions. Bridgemon’s prior charges, which included non-violent offences like driving without a valid licence, do not overshadow the severity of this case.
