Thugod Speaks Out on Violence After Tragic Shooting at Greensboro Waffle House

Breaking News: A tragic shooting has struck Greensboro, North Carolina. Last night, one juvenile was killed and another injured after a shooting at the Waffle House on Randleman Road. According to investigators, it happened just before 6 pm. The incident involved two juveniles; one of the suspects is now in custody. This senseless act of violence has left the community devastated, as one local friend begged after knowing one of the victims that guns should be put down and the violence needed to stop.

The tragic incident brings out a worsening trend here in our city, as much violence is happening in particular around the Randleman Road area, with many young people engaging in violent fights. One voice from within, against this violence, has been that of Thugod, a music artist doubling as a community activist and business owner, proudly a member of Establishing Safe Cultures (ESC). Thugod grew up in this very neighborhood and represents much more than just being an artist-he is the cause for change. Tired of seeing the same cycle of violence, Thugod raises his voice in the name of peace.

Thugod and Establishing Safe Culture: Call to Change

Thugod is deeply involved in the campaign of non-violence on and off the Internet. As a member of Establishing Safe Cultures, a local organization founded by Gene Blackmon, he expresses his determination that these acts of violence need to stop, finally, in Greensboro. Thugod has been passing the word for peace and unity through a Facebook group called Greensboro Triad Access. His events include encouraging young people to choose positive options and accepting non-violent solutions.

Establishing Safe Cultures, ESC, is one organization in the forefront of this fight for change. ESC was founded by Gene Blackmon to turn the culture of violence into a culture of understanding, respect, and safety. Its mission is to equip youth with life skills to manage conflict nonviolently and foster social and emotional development. Presently, the agency has designed programs, ranging in age from 5 to 18, actively working in the city of Greensboro to combat the tide of violence in building a culture of peace.

ESC Impact on Greensboro

Creating Safe Cultures is the answer that Greensboro was looking for against community violence. Their programs provide conflict resolution and critical thinking skills, besides financial literacy, social and emotional development, and even yoga/fitness for kids. The all-round approach by ESC will help the youngsters express their feelings, manage them, resolve conflicts without violence, and build a bright and prosperous future.
