NC Attorney General Sues to Block Trump’s Federal Funding Freeze

RALEIGH, N.C. – North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson has taken legal action against the Trump administration, filing a lawsuit to stop Trump’s federal funding freeze that could impact billions in grants. The lawsuit, filed in the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island, aims to prevent the freeze from taking effect immediately.

States Join Legal Fight Against Trump’s Federal Funding Freeze

Jackson is joined by attorneys general from 22 states and Washington, D.C., arguing that the freeze violates constitutional spending powers and the Administrative Procedure Act. They claim the sudden funding halt disregards established laws and regulations, causing potential harm to communities across the nation.

Impact on North Carolina

According to Jackson’s office, Trump’s federal funding freeze could significantly affect North Carolina, delaying $29 billion in hurricane recovery aid. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services also confirmed it temporarily lost access to the Medicaid payment portal due to the freeze. Additionally, law enforcement and victim assistance programs face potential funding losses.

A federal judge temporarily blocked Trump’s federal funding freeze just minutes before it was set to take effect. The order will keep the freeze on hold until Monday, allowing time for further legal review.
