( NEXSTAR)-Donald Trump has declared victory in the 2024 U.S. presidential election, addressing supporters in Florida despite votes still being counted in some key states. Speaking at West Palm Beach, Trump thanked the American people “for the extraordinary honour of being elected your 47th president”.
Trump has secured wins in crucial battleground states including Georgia, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina, significantly narrowing Vice President Kamala Harris’s path to victory. According to projections, Trump has 267 electoral votes, just 3 short of the 270 needed to win.
Trump claims victory in Speech to supporters
In his speech, Trump promised to “help heal our country” and deliver a “strong, safe, and prosperous America”. He claimed to have won the popular vote, though this cannot yet be confirmed. Trump also referred to his victory as “the greatest political movement of all time”.
However, it’s important to note that official results have not yet been declared in all states. The Harris campaign has stated they will continue to ensure every vote is counted. Some media outlets are cautioning against premature declarations, as final official results may take more time to be confirmed.
