GREENSBORO, N.C.( WGHP) –Yvonne Johnson, a prominent Greensboro city councilwoman and former mayor, passed away at 82 on December 4, 2024. This message was passed across by Robbie Perkins. She was surrounded by family at the time of her death
Perkins said, Yvonne has been the conscience of Greensboro, A peacemaker who held all together in difficult times. She was currently serving as an at – large member and mayor pro- tem of Greensboro city council with her term expiring in 2025. Yvonne has been in that post since 2011.

Before that, she already served as mayor of Greensboro from 2007 to 2009, in addition to that, she was a council member from 1993-2007. She graduated from Dudley High School and Bennett College where she received a master’s degree from North Carolina A&T state University. She was part of the civil Rights movement, Yvonne also sat at the Woolworth’s counter in Greensboro, she led the non- profit further for 4 decades, this organization was founded in 1982 and describe as “a private non profit agency” that helps Adults, parents, youths, families, take positive steps in their lives during times of personal crisis and conflict. Notably, she was described as a vibrant leader, filled with passion to serve. Her legacy as a dedicated public servant will be remembered fondly in Greensboro. At the moment, funeral arrangements are pending, Stay tune to get more updates.
